Being The Salt

Writer: Bekah SummaBekah Summa
“You are the salt of the Earth” Matthew 5: 13

Time after time Christians hear the term of “being the salt.” However, it is normally followed by propositions of big service projects, large mission trips, helping the poor, etc. Although all these things are good, a Christian can be the salt in so many more ways. So what do I mean by this?

Being the salt of the world can be shown through everyday acts of kindness.

A well-known quote by Mother Teresa is this,

“Do small things with great love.”

Mother Teresa was such an incredible woman of God and should be one of the biggest examples to Christian girls all across the globe.  She shared the gospel in every little thing she did and consistently put others before herself. ( full blog post all on Mother Teresa to come…)

This is what Christians are called to do. Whether writing a friend a sweet note, bringing someone breakfast in the morning unexpectedly, sitting with someone alone at lunch, every small act makes a difference. By showing love everywhere you go, you ARE showing the gospel.

Too many times people think the big acts matter the most, but as long as everything is done in love, God loves it just as much. He calls us to love and serve and work in accordance with one another, and loves it no matter how big or small it is.

The small things can be the biggest.

So this week write a friend a note, give someone an encouraging verse, stand up for someone if you hear people talking behind their back.

Love in the smallest of ways and you will see the biggest difference.
